Hi everyone,
It has been so long since I have written anything… I am so sorry but I just have not been able to find the time to do it. Believe me I want to because this will be great for the future. To be able to go back and read about all the wonderful things that have happened to us.
I am going to do a summary of the things that have happened since the last entry.
So in January we took two trips. The first one was to Miami. Our niece turned 15 and she had a party. I left before Cesar so I could spend some time with my family in Miami. I was a little nervous about the plane ride since I was going by myself but Camila was really good. She played, colored and talked the whole way down to Miami. As she got off the plane she said “Bravo piloto” and clapped. So I had rented a car with the car seat and OMG that was an ordeal because I had no clue how to put the car seat in. Cesar had done that for us and I never learned so I spent like 45 minutes trying to do it. The Car rental people would not help because they could be liable if something happened. Finally I was able to figure it out and off we went o my brother’s house. We had a really good time and Camila was friendly and she loved the attention. We spent three days with my family and on Friday we drove to Fort Lauderdale to pick up Cesar and we stayed in Weston at a hotel with Cesar’s family. We had an awesome time. On Saturday we spent the day at the pool and we also went to have lunch with one of my cousins that lived closed by ( Enrique, Tuti and their sons). We had a really good time and again Camila felt very comfortable and behaved well!
The party was Saturday night and we had a babysitter. First time I would live her with a baby sitter. I stayed until Camila fell asleep and went to the party. We had a really good time but the whole night I was thinking of my baby. We went to pick her up around 1:30 and she never knew we left so that was good! It was a good trip and what I loved the most is that Camila was happy, enjoyed the weather, and enjoyed the family.
Our second trip was to Cancun.. OH boy did we have fun!!!! We went with Cesar’s employees, it was 8 of us and Camila. We went to an all-inclusive resort and we had a blast. Camila did not want to be out of the pool. She was scared of the ocean because it was a little rough so she would only look at it but never wanted to go in. Which was perfectly alright with me.
Everyone in the hotel knew her because the very first night we were there she was dancing the night away… everywhere we went people would make comments on how cute she was, a very good dancer, etc… and of course we were loving it and she did too.. Loved the attention. We were there for 6 days and we just did not want to come back. It was an awesome vacation!!!
I will post pictures later on..
Ok so then February came and I started working on February 13th. That first week was hard, and yes I cried and cried. It was good that we had started taking her to day care part time because I the transition was easier but she was still crying. I think she cried for about 3 weeks and then it was fine. I also think it was harder on me than her. I was so embarrassed when the owner came up to me and said " Don't worry it will all be alright, it will get easier with time" he was comforting me instead of Camila!! I knew that 5 minutes after I left the day care she was fine but I was heartbroken for longer than 5 minutes!!! Things at work are good for me and I think day care is great for Camila. She is learning to be more independent, I love that she is with other kids and she starting to learn English!! She is in Goddard school and we were lucky that two of her teachers spoke Spanish so they would talk to her in Spanish at times so she would not be so lost. I could tell she was loving school because every afternoon she would say that she liked it. She looked happy and I knew she was having a great time. Of course in the morning she would say no escuela (no school) l , no niños (no kids). This went on forever for a long time. In the morning she did not like me rushing her so she did not want to go and the afternoon she would always say she loved it… The only bad thing is that she has gotten like 7 colds since she started…
In March we took another trip to the beach. We went to Destin with uncle Jaime, Aunt Isa and cousin Paula. We had an awesome time. We rented a Condo on the beach and we had a blast. Camila loves uncle Jaime. She is always asking for him. In Destin she did not want to get out of the ocean. The water in Destin is very calm so she was not scared anymore. We never went to the pool, we spent the entire time at the beach. Destin is absolutely beautiful and we all enjoyed our vacation. We drove there and I thought Camila was going to be crying and wanting to get out of the car but she actually behaved better than expected. 7 hours in a car is not easy, even harder if you are in a car seat!!! She was fine, slept part of the trip and only like the last 45 min of the trip going there and coming back is when she started to get desperate!! I am not sure I would want to do it again for that many hours in a car. I think we can fly next time!!
Sometime in May we started the potty training. At first it was not so good, then she was starting to get the hang of it and now we are back to square 1. She does not want to poop in the potty. I imagine that eventually she will. Pipi is no problem but not # 2….. We will see..
Mother’s day was awesome! I got tons of gifts and had a great time. We got together with the family and had a late lunch. I keep on saying that same thing over and over. I have been blessed!! I had no idea of what I was missing. Having a child is the best thing that could have ever happened to us. I just ask God to help us and guide us to raise her to be a good person with good values.
Last week we took a trip to Honduras which is where I am from. It was the first time she would meet my parents, cousins, childhood friends, etc… We also took this trip at this time because it was my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We were having a party and it was a great opportunity for my entire family to meet her. We had an awesome time. Camila was very friendly to everyone and very sweet to my parents. My daddy was just so happy. She was kissing him, hugging him, she was just all over him. I talked to my dad this week and he was truly missing Camila, they are already planning their trip to Atlanta.. Everyone loved her and she was loving all the attention. Cesar got there a week later and when he arrived all the attention was for him. It was very cute!! My dad was no longer in her radar! then it was all about papito!!
The party was awesome. My parents renewed their vows and it was very emotional. they both looked amazing and it was great to see everyone there. We had about 130-140 people that were there celebrating their love story.
We arrived this past Sunday and we all still tired. Camila had a difficult time the first day back to school but on Tuesday she was fine.
Ok so miscellaneous things that have happened:
- Camila pooped on Cesar’s hand one day.. it was hilarious. We laughed and laughed..
- She is starting to say phrases in English like: Not nice mami , Don’t touch, eat , Thank you, Good Morning, water, she knows the colors and she can count to 20.
- She sings the ABC’s , twinkle, twinkle, wheels on the bus, and she loves ELMO. Mickey use to be her favorite , now is Elmo.
- She loves to eat BEANS and tortillas!! and I am loving it!
- She gets mad if she says something and we do not understand.. She gets frustrated and then repeats it with a tone as saying “ I cannot believe you do not understand me”
- She likes to go the park and she loves the swings.
- When she passes gas she always says it was daddy.. Even if he is miles away. In Honduras she would always say” mama pedito papa”. I think it is funny , Cesar not so much, Ha ha
- She is still having two bottles a day. She wants her tete when she wakes up and another one when she goes to bed.
- She has friends in school that she mentions all the time Jonah and Jeremy
- She does not like daddy to sing.. only mami… It is funny! SHHH papito, mami sings.
- She loves to watch RIO, Ice Age, Winnie the Pooh and Toy Story
- She is becoming more like me. The way she points, talks, moves her hands and fingers. I see her and I see me : )
- Favorite breakfast food are waffles
- Favorite color Amarillo, yellow
- Favorite snack Elmo breakfast bar
- Favorite ice-cream flavor- strawberry
- If you ask her what is her name she says Camila Cardenas and then she says mama Cardenas, papito Cardenas and Elmo Cardenas
- If you ask her how mami calls papito she says, muñeco and Cesar
- If she calls papito and he does not answer or pay attention she starts calling him Cesar or muñeco
- She wants to do everything on her own. I let her try and when she needs help then she ask which most of the time we have to help her.
Camila is a typical 2 year old. She has done her share of temper tantrums. She will always to try to get her way. I am in this learning process and I try to discipline her but it is not easy. At times I feel all I am doing is saying NO, NO , NO, NO… and sometimes it gets overwhelming. She is very smart and she tries to take advantage of me and I have to admit sometimes she gets her way!!
There isn’t a book that can teach me how to be a good mother but I am doing it to the best of my knowledge. I have learned that sometimes I have to go with my gut, what I think is right and sometimes I have to ask for guidance.
She has adapted well to her new life. Her relationship with Cesar is stronger every day. Every morning they share this “special time” while I am getting ready and getting breakfast ready. They snuggle and watch Elmo together while she is drinking her tete. It is so very cute! At night we all go to bed together and once she falls asleep we leave the room. This is like a ritual now. After her shower she starts calling for daddy so we can all lay in her bed together!
She is making new friends and I just love to see her play and smile. She is a very happy kid and we are just having the time of our lives.
I am sure there are many other things that are escaping me right now and I will write them as I remember. I will make an effort to keep up with my blog! If you see I am not doing it please feel free to nudge me..
That is all for now : )... Oh and before I forget check out the pics below.. I posted several pics per month since January....

December and January updates!
It has been a while since I have written anything. I am going to try to write once a week from now on! During the holidays it was hard because we had lots of family over and everyday we were doing something.
In a nutshell we had an awesome time with our family and friends. Camila did very good. Camila was very friendly with all the uncles even the ones she had just met. We had a lot of activities duing the holidays and she behaved very well.
We celebrated Christmas on the 24th. We had everybody over at our house. There were tons of gifts. Camila enjoyed every single thing that night. She danced, played, sang. She got tons of presents and she was very happy. She went to bed at around 12:30 am. Once she decided it was time to go to bed she took her shoes, minnie, goofy, donald and she headd towards the stairs. She was out in like 5 minutes. The next day we got up at around 9:30am...
For New Year's we celebrated also at my house. This time we invited some friends and we were about 45 people. We had a really good time and Camila of course was the center of attention. She danced the night away. It was sooo cute to see her so happy and comfortable. She went to bed at 1:30am. Poor child she was soooo tired. It was impossible to put her to bed any earlier. The music and all the people playing with her had her undivided attention.
On the 1st of January we baptized her : ) We got up at 9am and Camila was so cooperative. He was tired but she never complained or cried. We got her dressed and she looked sooo beautiful. We got to the church at around 11:45, mass started at 12:00pm. She looked around and had her eyes wide open. She listened, she looked at the chorus and she behaved so wel the whole time. Once the mass ended it was time for her to be baptized. She never cried, screamed, talked or anything. She just looked at the priest with her big eyes. Everything went well, My brother in law Jaime and his wife Isabel(who is one of my best friends) are the god parents. After the baptism we all went to eat at Magianno's to celebrate. It was cool that all of Cesar brother's were here, I just wish my family could have been here too!
Camila recognizes her aunts, uncles and cousins. She feels very comfortable with them and it was amazing to watch how she loved being around them. Now I have to start showing her pics of my family so when she meets them they are not total strangers to her. I wanted to go home to Honduras before I started working but that will not be possible. Hopefully I can go to Honduras soon!
Ok so talking about the relationship with daddy. Sometimes I think she gets mad at him for going to work. All day she asks about daddy, she says all the time daddy working and then when Cesar comes home sometimes she acts lovig and other times she does not want to hang out with him. I know this will take time but I want it to be fast!!! I hate it when she acts up with him and I truly do not know what to do different. She has her days and I guess little by little it will get better.
At night after she takes a shower and is ready for her tete(bottle) she calls him and makes him lay beside her. It is sweet when she calls him and signals to him where he needs to lay down. Ater her tete she brushes her teeth and she says Papa ven(daddy come with me), se brushes and then we all go back to bed. We read a book and then Cesar says good night because if not she wants to play. This is a ritual now...
It took me a little while to get her back on schedule. With the holidays and all the visitors she was going to bed late every night. As of January 2nd I have been working on getting her to bed and sleeping by 8:30.. That is my goal every night. It is going well. She usually is sleeping by 8:30 and she gets up at around 7:45am.
We are trying to do activities with other kids. Last sunday we went with some friends to Catch air. This is a place for kids to jump around and it is all padded so it is great because it is very hard to get hurt. Camila had a blast and the whole time she hung out with Cesar. I was glad that they had time with each other. We plan to do this more often. I have also gone to the mall to the play area so she sees other kids and plays with them. So far she usually plays by herself. She does not mind the other kids but she is not getting close to them to play. I suppose this will change with time.
Ok so about daycare.... Cesar and I decided we would start daycare on the first week of January. We wanted to do part time so she could start little by little getting used to it. I took her on Wed January 4th. We arrived at 9:45 and I picked her up at 12:15 pm. I thought I was going to need therapy after dropping her off. I do not think she realized I was dropping her off. She was entertained by Elmo and when I said good bye she did not even look at me. I got in my car and cried my eyes out!!! I felt so ridiculous, crying like a baby!! The teacher, the owner and the director were all telling me that is was going to be ok. The teacher was trying so hard to make me feel better. When I arrived to pick her up the teacher told me that as soon as she realized I was gone she started crying and continued on and off. Same on Thursday , the only difference was that when we arrived she knew form the get go that I was just dropping her off. On Friday she actually said good bye to me and blew me a kiss. This week Mon-thursd she cried, the only difference this week was that I did not cry. It was breaking my heart!! She knows the way now so as soon as I turn she starts crying and saying ninos no, escuela no( no kids, no school). The teacher told me she was acting like a normal kid. They are always upset and some cry more than others. The thing with Camila is that she cries but she complies. She does not cling to my leg or cry uncontrollably. She says mama no but at the same time she takes her jacket off, she sits with the other kids as she continues to cry and keeps on saying mama no. Today, she started crying when I was getting her ready and I thought poor Camila I hope this gets better. She had breakfast and got in the car and she was crying on and off and kept on saying mama no ninos, no escuela(mama no kids, no school). We arrived and when I left the daycare she was still crying. I was worried about her the entire morning because she just seemed more upset than usual. At 12:15 pm sharo I was picking her up. To my surprise she was smiling and said to me she liked the kids and the school : ) The teacher said this was the best day she had had. She participated and did not cry much. I was so excited!!!! When we left she said good bye to the teachers and to the kids and she was SMILING!! I know on Monday it will be bad again because of the weekend but at least I am happy to see that there has been improvement. It was breaking my heart to leave her there crying!!!
There are so many things and details I could write about Camila. She is sweet, spoiled, has a bad temper when she does not get her way, she loves to dance, sing, and she is just a happy baby. She also eats very well. Sometimes I get worried that she eats too much!! Oh and she is very intelligent. You guys would be amazed to see how she has such good memory, she also does puzzles on her own, we just have to show her once what to do and she remembers, she loves computers and daddy's Iphone...She also talks a lot(just like mommy). Movies she loves RIO and Toy story..Songs she loves Danza kuduro, yo no se manana, WAKA WAKA, also all the children's songs on a CD we bought in Colombia.
I do not get tired of saying this...We are blessed and I would not change a thing about our life at the moment. I am so in love with Cesar and Camila. Every day something different happens that just warms up my heart and makes me love both of them more!!!!
I am going to upload some pics and a video(if this is allowed)soon. I also promise I will write every week. I know there are many things that escape me right now that happened in December. As I remember I will post them even if time has gone by.
